Electric Press
Situated in the heart of Leeds within Millennium Square, this historic listed warehouse has been reimagined as contemporary office space while honouring its industrial past. Originally housing printing presses and noted as one of the first buildings in Leeds to be powered by electricity, the Electric Press is a landmark of the city’s progressive spirit.
The Boiler House
Following the decommissioning of the gas boilers and greenhouses at St. Andrews’ Botanic Gardens, RKA were invited to pitch for the project of reusing the existing boiler house and adapting this into a new education space for school pupils, university students, and visiting groups. The elegant 1970s structure needed a new lease of life. We re-used the machine room as a new entrance hall with a tall ceiling and added a high level window. The main move was to remove the wall between the boiler room and garages to create one large flexible space with exposed steel and timber structure.
16 Old Bailey
Orms were appointed to refurbish and extend 16 Old Bailey which includes a Grade II Listed Building at the front and is in close proximity to a number of listed buildings including the Central Criminal Court, 15 Old Bailey and Church of St Sepulchre. The property was originally built for the Chatham and Dover Railway Company alongside an open railway track and Holborn Viaduct station to the rear.
133 Houndsditch
133 Houndsditch is a reception refurbishment to the 5 storey office accommodation located a short walk from London Liverpool Street station. We worked to retain as many finishes possible to minimise waste and the carbon footprint of the building. The floor was retained in it’s entirety with all wall cladding either retained and cleaned or retained and hidden with the new panelling.
65 Haymarket Terrace
65 Haymarket Terrace, located in Edinburgh city centre next to Haymarket station, saw our clients wishing to transform the building’s common parts to keep both existing tenants and attract new ones. Our solution is to incorporate an unused garden to extend the reception space and create internal spaces to sit, relax, and work. Exposing the original concrete structure, including a waffle slab ceiling, provides thermal mass whilst significantly increases ceiling height.
Britton Street
Located in the Clerkenwell conservation area this building has been transformed with a new facade and full internal refurbishment. The 1980’s facade was a black spot in the historic street and has been replaced with a Peterson brick and oak window facade, to compliment the range of brick types and window styles in the area. The new design increases the natural light into the building by over 25%.
Exmouth House
The transformation of Exmouth House in Clerkenwell into a vibrant media style office building. The £2m project at 3-11 Pine Street involved the upgrade and refreshment of the common parts of the building, utilising a series of sprayed graffiti murals, graphic signage, bold colour and dramatic neon lighting in various ‘hot spots’ around the building.
Folgate Court
Folgate Court is an existing group of office buildings located on the western edge of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets originally redeveloped in the early 1990’s. Owned by Brockton Capital and located near Spitalfields, the building is transformed into a high quality, sustainable development that provides new office accommodation to meet the requirements of the modern day occupier.
Glenfarg Studios
Set near the village of Glenfarg, this proposal reimagines a rural agricultural site currently occupied by aging farm sheds. The vision is to replace these with a flexible mix of office and storage units, adaptable for uses such as a farm shop, café, or butchery.
