Project Description
This proposal delivers a comprehensive upgrade to the Ardgowan Hotel in St Andrews, comprising two adjoining B-listed Georgian properties. The scheme sensitively reconfigures the hotel layout to improve functionality, guest experience, and long-term viability. Key elements include full internal refurbishment, a new rear extension for upgraded kitchens and staff facilities, and the creation of additional hotel rooms.
The proposals enhance the street presence with a more defined entrance, removal of unsympathetic additions, and carefully restored facades. A reimagined front terrace, enlarged garden-level F&B space, and improved accessibility reconnect the hotel with its historic setting. The design respects the conservation area through careful detailing, minimal demolition, and retention of key features such as original stairs and masonry. This revitalisation ensures the hotel continues to contribute positively to the townscape and visitor economy of St Andrews.
