Project Description
On behalf of Castleforge, RKA has carried out a feasibility study exploring the redevelopment potential of the Savoy Centre and its surrounding buildings in central Glasgow. The wider site includes Savoy House on Sauchiehall Street, Savoy Tower – home to Castleforge’s co-working brand ‘Clockwise’ – and Glasgow’s oldest nightclub, ‘The Savoy’.
The study responds to the evolving nature of high street retail and the challenges accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to the decline of the once-thriving indoor market that occupied the ground and first floors. Today, only part of the market remains active, with much of the space mothballed.
Our approach focuses on unlocking the potential of the entire development through improved internal connectivity, particularly between Savoy House and Savoy Tower, and expanding the presence of Clockwise across the lower floors. The study also identifies opportunities to enhance the arrival experience from both Sauchiehall Street and Renfrew Street, introduce more natural light into the interior, and reimagine the former market as a flexible, light-filled hub.
