Project Description

Formerly the work and potting sheds for the park this early 20th century brick structure was underused and in need of a new life.

RKA continued their working relationship with Friends of Craigtoun with the commission to prepare a design for a new café and education space as part of a wider masterplan.

The brick potting sheds are built up against a listed stone wall which is the perimeter of the original walled gardens. Key to the project was creating visual and physical links between the courtyard and walled gardens in which the wall currently sits as a barrier.

Exposing and re-using materials wherever possible was a design driver with newly exposed stone wall and timber roof structure. The education spaces include classrooms and a training kitchen that can be used by local employment charities.
