The location of this project benefits from fantastic view across the River Eden and North Sea coastline – views which were bizarrely obscured because the only window looked in the other direction!  We proposed a new corner window to maximise the view and added a window seat to allow our clients to really enjoy it.

The design provides several simple interventions which entirely transform an underused space to maximise its potential. When we looked above the existing flat ceiling we saw an opportunity to gain height with a coved ceiling, including a gorgeously slim edged coved lighting detail.

An existing fireplace was opened up to provide a visual link between the existing living room and new living space, plus a surprise find of an old window in what was originally the end wall of the house.

A new and bespoke vaulted ceiling abuts the original stonework which was exposed as part of the design. Crisp LED lighting ledges were installed along the length of the vaulted ceiling to illuminate the curved piece and make it a feature of the room alongside the exceptional views.
