Stuart D. Campbell, Architectural Designer

Stuart D Campbell - RKA Architects

Stuart is leading a number of significant projects in the office, including the Craigtoun park projects, a listed building refurbishment for charity Options in Life and a number of interesting and challenging bespoke hosues.

Stuart is an MArch graduate of the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and the Built Environment, Aberdeen.  His thesis focussed on “building tall with timber” and an in-depth historical study of tall Japanese timber construction.   Elements of Stuart’s work were exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and he was also a finalist for the RIAS Silver Medal for Best Scottish Student.

Prior to his post graduate studies, Stuart spent a year in industry placement with Glenn Howells Architects in London where he worked on a variety of projects, but largely devoting most of his time to a mixed-use development project at the heart of Royal Tunbridge Wells, the Belvedere. This provided Stuart with a valuable insight into sensitive large scale design and working closely with the design team and the local community.

Stuart’s approach to design comes from an appreciation for craft and well made things.   He is an advocate for good design practice with a passion for hand drawing, model making and woodwork that eats up a lot of his time away from work.
